MasterCard® introduced new requirements for both cardholder and business receipts. All receipts from an electronic Point-of-Sale (POS) device must exclude the card expiration date and only include the last four digits of the account number. All other digits must be replaced with fill characters such as:
X
#
*
There can be no blank spaces or number characters. MasterCard requires all new equipment and equipment not currently truncating to be in compliance by October 2008. All existing equipment currently truncating must be compliant by December 2010.
POS equipment purchased or rented directly from First National Merchant Solutions should be compliant.
The last phase of Visa's Triple Data Encryption Standard (TDES) is effective July 1, 2010. All transactions originating from a Personal Entry Device (PED) must use TDES, which protects online PIN-based transactions from the point of entry to the issuer. All PIN-based Visa transactions are required to comply.
The latest industry requirements as mentioned above are driving changes in the payment acceptance market. Non-compliance could impact your business. First National Merchant Solutions is proactively retiring non-compliant or obsolete POS terminals and equipment.
